History of Pace

There are several reasons Pace inhabitants chose to settle here, and accordingly population has swelled dramatically; the welcoming small-town atmosphere, excellent school system, and outstanding athletic programs are just a few of those reasons. Pace offers the conveniences of a large city without all the hustle and bustle. Pace is centrally located between Milton and Pensacola.

The students of Pace's schools, among others in Santa Rosa County, achieved Florida's highest FCAT scores in 2003. The band of Pace High School competed at the national Cotton Bowl, winning a first- and two second-place prizes. The Navy JROTC at Pace High School won best military leadership in a global competition, proving themselves as future community and military leaders. The community is incredibly proud of its students.

Pace's population explosion has courted a wide variety of new business to the area, including new doctors, medical services, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Ryan's Steakhouse, Ruby Tuesday, and Village Inn. These are just a very few of many businesses who stepped in to fill Pace's growing needs. Besides business, Pace has also witnessed a boom in entertainment and recreational services. The Pace Athletic Recreation Association increased the size of its sports complex recently, instituting a variety of organized sports. A brand-new bowling alley and movie theater also opened not long ago. The Benney Russell Park is now complete, and the Kathy Russell Memorial Garden is nearly finished as well. A local favorite, the Farmers' Opry House provides a live band and dinner for a nominal fee.

Pace also holds numerous annual festivals. Pace High School hosts Pace Festival Day, and the Farmers' Opry House Hosts the Bluegrass Festival, both in April. Santa Rosa County's Creek Indians hold a two-day Indian Celebration at Floridatown Park in late November. These are only a sampling of Pace's local festivals and gatherings.

Though it's growing fast, its schools are world-class, and its recreational activities are numerous, Pace retains the friendliness and charm of its early days. All these combine to make Pace a place people come to year after year.
